Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles, has partnered with the City of Harare in efforts to improve the appearance and upkeep of Africa Unity Square, enhancing the surroundings of the hotel while creating a better experience for guests.

The partnership has seen improvements to the garden, including the restoration of the fountain, drilling of new boreholes to ensure consistent watering, lighting upgrades, fresh landscaping and maintenance of the grounds.

Africa Unity Square is found in between Nelson Mandela Avenue, Sam Nujoma Street, Jason Moyo Street and Patrice Lumumba Street and adjacent to the magnificent Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles.

The collaboration is part of the hotel’s efforts to improve its surroundings and give guests an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the park, particularly those dining at its restaurant.

Speaking during a tour of the establishment’s refurbished areas, Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles, Director of Sales and Marketing, Nyasha Mwandiambira, said the hotel had opened up the wall area of its kitchen restaurant to give diners a better view of Africa Unity Square.

“We opened up the wall area of the kitchen restaurant so as to have an amazing view of the Africa Unity Square garden. We wanted to make the ambience look much, much better than it was before,” he said.

Mwandiambira said the hotel also wanted guests to enjoy the beauty of the garden and the restored fountain while dining at the restaurant.

“Because of the active work that we also partnered with the City of Harare, we wanted the guests to enjoy the beauty of the fountain working. You are sitting in the restaurant, you can stand and look at the garden.”

He added that the partnership had also involved improving the garden’s infrastructure and general appearance.

“We have partnered with the City of Harare to improve the look of the garden, fixed the lighting, sunk new boreholes so that there’s watering throughout the day and into the evening as well,” added Mwandiambira.

The benches have also been painted, while florists were engaged to ensure that the surroundings remain orderly.

Africa Unity Square, with its beautiful jacaranda trees, is also visible from the park-facing section of the hotel, giving guests an opportunity to enjoy the green space and its surroundings.

The partnership highlights the importance of collaboration between private sector players and local authorities in maintaining public spaces and improving the appearance of the city.

For Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles, the improvements to Africa Unity Square complement the refurbishment of its facilities, with the surrounding environment forming part of the overall guest experience.
