The State of Palestine has sent a message of solidarity to Zimbabwe, following the tragic capsizing of a boat on Lake Kariba whose death toll has risen to 44.
The indecent occurred on Tuesday (August 11), after the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) boat named Mbuya Nehanda, reportedly carrying over 100 people from Kariba to Chalala, capsized.
Reports are that over 70 people have so far been rescued, as recovery efforts are ongoing.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has since declared it a State of Disaster.
Ambassador Almassri expressed deepest condolences to President Mnangagwa, the Government and the people of the Republic of Zimbabwe, saying he received the message with great sorrow.
“We received the news of this tragedy with great sorrow. The State of Palestine stands in solidarity with the Government and people of Zimbabwe as the nation mourns this heavy loss.
“We pray for the swift recovery of those still missing, wish the survivors a speedy recovery, and extend our comfort to the bereaved families,” said Dr Almassri.
He added: “we commend the efforts of the authorities, emergency services, and all individuals working tirelessly to locate the missing and assist those affected.
“May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.”
