Kadoma Central legislator Gift Mambipiri, has said no girl should skip class or miss school due to lack of sanitary ware.

Honourable Mambipiri revealed this on Thursday as he donated US$8000 worth of sanitary pads to the District Schools Inspector.

Speaking at the handover ceremony at Waverley High School in the the City of Gold, Honourable Mambipiri expressed gratitude to the community of Kadoma and various stakeholders for the donations and unwavering support for the noble ‘Pad Up Kadoma’ initiative.

“I would like to thank the community of Kadoma, stakeholders and friends from outside our borders who donated these pads to 8000 school girls here in Kadoma,” he said.

The legislator said ‘Pad Up Kadoma’ aims to alleviate challenges faced by the girl child regarding their menstruation.

“The ‘Kadoma Pad Up’ endeavours to alleviate period poverty, and no girl should miss 5 days of school each month due to menstruation,” he vowed.

Mrs Mashayandebvu, The District Schools Inspector, showed her appreciation and thanked the Legislator and his team for the kind gesture and entreated Honourable Mambipiri to make the pad drive a perennial thrust.

She encouraged the girls to self-love and pursue their education to higher levels.

Jacob Jacha, the ‘Kadoma Pad Up’ coordinator, said that they have reached out and distributed sanitary pads to 16 schools (ZIMCARE Trust included) in Kadoma Central, Chakari and Mhondoro Ngezi constituencies which are all within Kadoma urban.

“The initiative has indirectly raised awareness about the importance of sanitary pads.

“The campaign has encouraged fathers to include sanitary pads on their budget and monthly groceries, thereby recognising the importance of supporting their wives and daughters.

“The ‘Kadoma Pad Up’ has gone a notch further in raising awareness on drugs and is helping boys in staying off the streets,” added Jacha.

Ward 17 Councillor Mr Mawire and a representative from Farai were among the guests.
