In the midst of a devastating conflict, the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Zimbabwe has condemned the Israeli government’s actions to halt humanitarian aid from entering the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s decision to block essential supplies, including water, food, and electricity, has been deemed a blatant act of collective punishment and a crime against humanity.
The Gaza Strip, home to over 2 million Palestinians, has been under Israeli blockade since 2007. The current crisis has pushed the region to the brink of catastrophe, with millions displaced, hundreds of thousands struggling to survive, and an estimated 30,000 dead.
Ambassador Tamer Almassri, in a statement highlighted that Israeli blockade on Gaza is a blatant violation of international law and demands urgent accountability under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
“Israel’s actions serve as a clear reminder that it is a major threat to peace and stability in the region. The international community cannot remain silent in the face of these atrocities. Immediate and decisive action is essential to end Israel’s ongoing crimes, violations in occupied Palestine, and the genocide unfolding in Gaza”, Ambassador Almassri explained.
Ambassador Almassri urgently calls upon the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to take immediate and decisive action to end Israel’s ongoing crimes and violations in the occupied Palestine and ongoing genocide in Gaza. The world must not stand idly by as Israel perpetrates these atrocities against the civilian population of Gaza.
The State of Palestine emphasizes the international community’s moral duty to take swift and decisive action to address this escalating humanitarian crisis. Urgent efforts are needed to establish a permanent ceasefire and create the necessary conditions for Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction. Additionally, Israel must be held accountable for its violations of international law and crimes against humanity.
The ongoing blockade of Gaza stands as a stark testament to the Israeli government’s blatant disregard for human life and its deliberate infliction of suffering on an entire population. The world cannot remain passive while innocent civilians endure such inhumane treatment.
