GirlFest emerges as major women-centred lifestyle event

BY SUE NYIRENDA

GirlFest is emerging as one of Zimbabwe’s distinctive women-centred lifestyle events, with its latest edition showing how an entertainment gathering can evolve into a much broader all female cultural and social experience.

The 2026 edition brought together hundreds of women at Old Hararians Sports Club, where music, fashion, food, drinks and friendship combined under the Rosa Riviera concept.

The growth of the festival can be seen in the anticipation surrounding each edition.

Women began preparing their outfits a few months before the event, friends made plans to attend together and social-media conversations built momentum around the performers and the theme.

The event itself then provided several different experiences within one setting.

Some attendees focused on the performances, others explored the food booths, while many spent much of their time socialising, taking photographs and showing off their Rosa Riviera-inspired outfits.

This variety has become central to GirlFest’s identity.

Rather than relying on one attraction, the festival brings together different aspects of contemporary urban lifestyle and places them within a women-focused environment.

This formula has indeed developed a loyal following.

The social media reactions are individual experiences rather than a measure of the entire audience, but they illustrate the personal connection some attendees have developed with the festival.

GirlFest’s appeal also lies in its ability to create a sense of occasion.

The Rosa Riviera theme encouraged women to make an effort with their appearance, turning arrival at the venue into part of the day’s experience.

The suggested bright colours filled the gathering, while elegant and coordinated outfits, accessories and carefully styled beauty looks created a polished atmosphere.

Food, drinks, photo booths further enhanced the leisure aspect, while the entertainment programme ensured that the gathering retained the energy of a major music event.

The combination has created opportunities for a wide range of businesses and creatives, including performers, DJs, food vendors, fashion-related businesses, photographers, content creators and brands.

That makes GirlFest significant beyond the entertainment itself.

It demonstrates the commercial possibilities of creating an event around an identifiable community and a carefully developed lifestyle identity.

The women attending are an audience, consumers, content creators, fashion participants and ambassadors for the experience when they share photos, videos and comments online.

That digital conversation helps sustain interest beyond the day of the festival.

The latest edition has consequently strengthened GirlFest’s reputation as an occasion women plan for, dress for and experience collectively and notably, sisterhood with no record of fighting or reckless behavior.

Its growth reflects an appetite for events that offer more than a stage and a crowd.

What the show offers is helping GirlFest to establish a distinctive identity in Zimbabwe’s increasingly diverse lifestyle and entertainment scene.
