The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC/Commission) has congratulated the Government and the nation at large, on the country’s election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2027–2028 term.
In a statement, ZHRC said “this significant diplomatic achievement reflects the growing international confidence in Zimbabwe’s participation in multilateral engagement, international cooperation and global governance processes.
“The election also represents an important milestone in Zimbabwe’s continued contribution to regional and international affairs.”
The Commission added that it recognises that the country’s membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) creates a role which carries immense responsibility in advancing international peace and security; promoting human rights, enforcing constitutionalism and protecting administrative justice.
“ZHRC is confident that the Government of Zimbabwe will utilise this important platform to promote dialogue among nations, bring peaceful resolution of conflicts, promote respect for international law and enforce human rights protection at national, regional and international levels.
“The Commission commends His Excellency, The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa; the Government of Zimbabwe; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and all stakeholders whose diplomatic efforts, commitment and engagement contributed to this important achievement,” added the statement.
