City of Gweru promotes disability rights through trading spaces

In a move aimed at promoting inclusivity and empowerment, the City of Gweru has announced an opportunity for traders with disabilities to apply for designated trading spaces.

In a notice issued on October 17, traders with disabilities are invited to submit applications to the Director of Housing and Community Service for allocated trading spaces.

“Applicants are required to provide a copy of their National ID, proof of disability (medical certificate or confirmation from a recognised disability association or organisation) and proof of residence.” read the notice.

Nyasha Chichi Mahwende, a Disability Advocate based in Gweru, was escatic and welcomed the move which was long ovedue.

“We appreciate the City’s efforts in recognising the disability community by extending such a kind and timeous gesture.

“It shows that most of our submissions are being taken into consideration and we really are moving in the right direction,” said Mahwende.
