In a decisive move to recognize the outstanding efforts of law enforcement, Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe (PLZ) awarded police officers from ZRP Goromonzi Station, for their rapid and effective response to a spree of robberies targeting Chinese employees at Arcadia Mine.
The recent crime wave, which began in May 2025, saw several Chinese nationals ambushed and robbed near the Arcadia Technology Zimbabwe Lithium Sulphate Project.
The perpetrators evaded capture but, the collaboration between PLZ Re-orient Security and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), four suspects were recently apprehended.
The investigation led to confessions and the recovery of stolen mobile phones, cash and other personal belongings.
The acting Officer-In-Charge Goromonzi, Assistant Inspector Jani, described how the report of repeated robberies targeting Chinese nationals prompted a joint effort with the PLZ security team.
“We teamed up with PLZ security and our investigations led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of stolen items, including five cellphones and a Motorola radio, with the accused taken to court.
“In recognition of their dedication, Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe has honored officers from ZRP Goromonzi for their exemplary service,” said Assistant Inspector Jani.
Recognizing the professionalism, dedication, and quick action of the officers involved, PLZ organized a special ceremony to honour the ZRP Goromonzi team. Awards were presented to those who played pivotal roles in the investigation and apprehension of the suspects.
Each officer received a certificate of commendation and a food hamper symbolizing the company’s appreciation for their service.
PLZ’s ESG Director, Yu Long, commended the officers, stating: “we commend the authorities for their commitment to fighting crime and maintaining public order. Their actions have contributed significantly to restoring safety and peace in our working environment.”
The awarded officers were lauded not just by company officials but also by the local community, who expressed renewed confidence in the partnership between private security and law enforcement.
The officer-in-charge highlighted how the recognition from PLZ has motivated the team further, ensuring they remain committed to safeguarding the community.
DISPOL Marondera Chief Superintendent Gumbo, highlighted the importance of cooperation and community trust, as it goes a long way in discovering intelligence shared by criminals and can effectively combat crime and keep the community safe.
“Criminals share intelligence among themselves and we as the police should know our strength, integrity and the people we work with. If you know people appreciate your work, you fully commit yourself.
“We know PLZ built the base at Lonely Park for police operations, which is commendable. We will give our full measure of services so the community is secure,” said Chief Superintendent Gumbo.
This gesture by PLZ underscores the vital role of recognizing and incentivizing exemplary public service. It also demonstrates the importance of public-private cooperation in maintaining security and protecting vulnerable workers in Zimbabwe’s growing mining sector.
