Young Women For ED (YW4ED) on Sunday disbursed 100 goats under the auspices of the Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme at Vungwi Primary School in Shurugwi’s Ward 11.
The program which was launched in February this year, is being spearheaded by the Zanu PF Economic For Development affiliate, in an effort to transform and empower the lives of young women in rural areas through the provision of income generating projects.
The Chairperson for Young Women for ED, Dorcas Masango, in an interview said the initiative is large in scope and the girl child in all provinces in the country will benefit.
“The initiative is set to benefit 20,000 to 30,000 young women across Zimbabwe through projects such as goat rearing, fish and vegetable farming.
“The Midlands Province is sorely focusing on the goat keeping project.” said Masango.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude and were optimistic that the program will transform their livelihoods for the better.
“We want to thank the President for this most welcome move which came when we least expected it and I do believe that this will go a long way in improving our welfare and enhancing our nutrition,” one beneficiary said.
“This project has the power to change everything for us. If we can make it work, our whole community will benefit,” added another beneficiary.
This latest development thrust comes at an opportune time, underscoring its commitment to addressing the economic needs of rural communities which will see the girl child getting impacted economically and psychologically.
