Philanthropist Dr Justice Mhishi has continued his wheelchair donation initiative, handing 10 wheelchairs to people with disabilities in Gokwe North as part of efforts to complement Government programmes aimed at improving their lives.
The latest donation was made at Nyamazengwe Primary School in Chief Chireya’s area under Headman Makore, Ward 12, in the Midlands Province.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Dr Mhishi said the initiative was meant to support the Government’s vision of ensuring that no one is left behind while restoring hope, dignity and independence to people with disabilities.
“I am here to support our Government’s vision and to share a message of unity, love, and togetherness. Today is a special day because we are restoring hope, dignity, and independence to members of our community,” he said.
Dr Mhishi added that a wheelchair was more than just a donation, as it gives beneficiaries freedom and confidence to actively participate in their communities.
“A wheelchair is more than a gift. It gives freedom, confidence, and independence. It allows people to move with dignity and participate fully in their communities. This is true empowerment,” said Dr Mhishi.
He said the initiative was inspired by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of inclusive development.
“This initiative is guided by the vision of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, whose national mantra is ‘Leaving No One and No Place Behind.’
“We fully support this vision because development must reach every citizen, every community, and every person, including persons with disabilities,” he said.
Dr Mhishi also paid tribute to the First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa for her commitment to caring for vulnerable members of society.
“We are also inspired by the compassionate leadership of the First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa. Her dedication to caring for vulnerable members of society encourages all of us to serve with love, compassion, dignity, and respect,” he said.
He said every person deserves equal opportunities regardless of their physical condition.
“No one chooses the condition they are born with. Every person deserves to be loved, respected, and given equal opportunities. Today, we thank God for giving us the opportunity to share love and support by donating these wheelchairs to our families and communities,” he said.
Dr Mhishi said his initiative complements Government efforts to empower persons with disabilities and urged communities to continue supporting one another.
