The Health Service Commission (HSC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC), will host the inaugural Public Health Sector Wellness Festival from 6 to 10 July 2026, at Midlands State University (MSU) in Gweru.
Running under the theme: “Stronger Together, Healthier Together,” the flagship event will unite healthcare professionals from all 10 provinces, central hospitals and public-private sector stakeholders.
Her Excellency Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa, through her philanthropic organisation, the Angel of Hope, will support the event by providing state-of-the-art screening facilities. Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr. Douglas Mombeshora and the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Owen Ncube, will grace the occasion.
The festival is aligned with the HSC’s strategic mandate under Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2, to build a resilient and motivated healthcare workforce.
By investing in the physical, mental and financial well-being of frontline workers, the initiative is expected to directly strengthen national service delivery and improve patient outcomes.
Over the five days, participants will take part in mental health workshops, burnout prevention sessions, team-building activities, sports and other wellness engagements designed to promote healthier workplaces and a more motivated health sector. In addition to staff-focused activities, the festival will extend its benefits to the wider community by offering free medical services to the public. These will include screenings for cervical cancer, breast cancer, blood pressure, and diabetes, as well as HIV testing, counselling and general wellness assessments.
Attendees will also receive preventive health advice and counselling on lifestyle modification.
A vibrant Health and Wellness Exhibition will run concurrently at MSU.
And it is further reported that leading pharmaceutical companies, financial institutions, medical aid societies and development partners, will showcase innovations and foster critical public-private collaborations aimed at modernising Zimbabwe’s health sector.
The festival will kick off with a public march led by the ZPCS Band and Drum Majorettes. The procession will move from Midlands Hotel to Gweru Provincial Hospital before concluding at the MSU Multi-purpose Hall.
The HSC says this is a landmark national event meany to mark the start of a movement placing employee wellness at the core of health sector transformation.
