The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has revealed that a 53-year-old woman was today (Sunday, 2 November 2025) trampled to death by an elephant in Kariba.
In a statement, ZimParks Acting Public Relations Manager, Tamirirashe Mudzingwa, reported that they had received with deep sadness, the tragic news that occurred at Kariba Heights.
“According to preliminary reports, the victim was on her way to church with her child when they encountered elephants along the road.
“While attempting to avoid the animals, she was unfortunately attacked and fatally injured by one of the elephants.
“The scene was swiftly attended to by rangers who were promptly deployed to track the elephant,” said Mudzingwa.
Mudzingwa said the authority extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the Kariba community at large during this difficult time.
“The Authority continues to urge members of the public, especially those living in wildlife prone areas, to exercise extreme caution.
“It is crucial for communities to remain vigilant and immediately report sightings of potentially dangerous animals to the nearest ZimParks or Police office.
“ZimParks remains committed to safeguarding both human and wildlife and continues to implement measures to minimize human-wildlife conflict across the country,” he added.
