Commissioner General Chihobvu honoured with African Lives Development  Award

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Commissioner General Moses Chihobvu has been honoured with the African Lives Development Award, at the 3rd Africa Education Summit, which was held recently at  Elephant Hills Resort in Victoria Falls.

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Torerai Moyo was full of praises for Commissioner General Chihobvu applauding how he has positively transformed ZPCS in the education sector.

“Under the Commissioner General’s transformative leadership, ZPCS has placed education at the centre of rehabilitation and empowerment.

“Notable achievements include the establishment of 12 primary schools, three secondary schools, and 13 adult ZIMSEC centres, offering academic pathways from Grade 7 to A-Level.

“The organisation also successfully assumed control of Guruve Prison and Bindura Primary Schools, with plans underway to launch a ZPCS secondary boarding school,” said Minister Moyo.

He added : “inmates and officers alike are benefiting from a wide range of vocational and professional training programs, while the recruitment of qualified teachers has strengthened the quality of education delivery across ZPCS institutions.

“The introduction of the Commissioner General’s Sports Gala and Merit Awards in 2023 further cemented ZPCS’s commitment to recognising excellence in education and sport, fostering motivation, discipline, and holistic development.

“This award is a resounding endorsement of the Commissioner General’s progressive approach to correctional services and ZPCS’s growing role as a model for rehabilitation-focused reform in Africa.”

Minister Moyo added that the award recognises Commissioner General Chihobvu’s visionary leadership in promoting education and human development across Africa.
