The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has introduced spot fines for operators of tourism-designated facilities as part of efforts to maintain high operating standards and ensure compliance within the country’s tourism sector.

In a public notice, the tourism regulator said the penalties are aimed at promoting adherence to licensing requirements and other regulatory obligations by tourism operators.

Under the new penalty fee schedule, operators found operating without a valid licence will be fined US$200 per month, with the penalty chargeable for a maximum period of two years.

Operators who submit renewal applications or new applications late will incur a US$100 fine, while those making unapproved alterations to their facilities will be liable for a US$500 penalty.

The Authority has also introduced a number of compliance-related fines. Failure to display regulatory licences in areas accessible to both law enforcement agencies and clients will attract a US$100 fine.

Tourism operators who fail to submit statistical data to a designated tourism officer will also be fined US$100.

Additionally, tourism-designated facilities that do not meet the prescribed minimum standards will face a US$100 penalty, while operators who fail to maintain guest records in tourist facilities will also be liable for a US$100 fine.

ZTA urged all operators to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements to avoid penalties and contribute to the growth and integrity of the tourism sector.

It is said compliance is essential for maintaining professionalism, enhancing visitor experiences, and safeguarding Zimbabwe’s reputation as a premier tourism destination.

“Compliance is not optional. Register, operate legally and protect the integrity of Zimbabwe’s tourism sector,” reads the public notice.
