Mashambanzou Care Trust (MCT) will on October 11, celebrate its 35th anniversary at their Waterfalls offices at an event which is also meant to fundraise for a new Care Unit incinerator.
In a statement, MCT Director Constance Chigwamba, said since it’s inception in 1989 by Sister Noreen Nolan of the Little Company of Mary Sisters of the Roman Catholic Church, its mission has always been to respond with compassion, innovation and dedication to the challenges brought by HIV and AIDS providing care, hope and empowerment to vulnerable individuals, families and communities.
Chigwamba said the event will also coincide with the International Day of the Girl Child and will be held in collaboration with the birthday celebrations of artist Dereck Mpofu.
“This celebration is not only about reflecting on our history and milestones but also about securing the future of our services.
“As part of the event, we are fundraising for a new Care Unit incinerator, essential for the safe disposal of medical waste at our 30-bedded hospital.
“The current incinerator is no longer functional and replacing it is critical to safeguard our patients, staff and surrounding community from a health hazard.
“The current cost of the incinerator is US$9 000, and all proceeds from the day will go toward this vital need,” said Chigwamba.
It was added that MCT is inviting families, businesses, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and well-wishers to join them, as they seek for more donations to make this initiative a success.
“There will be exhibitions, music, food and entertainment from some of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated artists. “Admission at the gate will be US$5, exhibition stands will be available for US$50, and corporate sponsorship packages start at US$250.
“To help raise funds, branded Mashambanzou golf T-shirts will be sold for US$12 and caps for US$5.
“Food will be available starting from as little as US$2, including traditional meals, braai and refreshments. Beverages will also be sold at affordable prices,” added Chigwamba.
It was added that participation at this event will not only celebrate Mashambanzou’s legacy, but will also ensure that they continue to provide free, safe and quality care to those who need it most.
“Together, let us make Mashambanzou @35 a memorable event and a turning point for the future of our services,” added Chigwamba.
