The Avenues Clinic, Chief Financial Officer Peddy Chigunduru, has said youths should be fully supported and empowered, so that they can reach their full potential without being limited by their family backgrounds.

Chigunduru revealed this on Monday, during The Avenues Clinic’s Father’s Day event which was attended by students from Allan Wilson, Mufakose High 1 and Harare High, as he also urged them (students) to set clear goals driven by passion and strong mental attitudes.

“We specifically targeted certain schools in the district of Harare for specifically trying to inspire them and raise their hope and believe in the future.

“We invited two very young specialist doctors who are playing a very big role in the healthcare delivery system.

“And the idea was to make sure that we empower the young ones, that there is very much hope, there’s so much potential in what they do as long as they put their plans to action.

“We also made sure that as The Avenues Clinic, we continue to inspire.

“We invest in our people, the young minds so that they form the future human capital base for our country,” said Chigunduru.

He added that during Mother’s Day celebrations, they also invited young girls in high school and others targeted people, so as to inspire tthe young ones.

“In saying Father’s Day, we celebrate all fathers who have played a role in the lives of their families and our nation.

“We also celebrate mothers who are playing father’s role in championing and nurturing their families and everyone else who has provided for their family and provided leadership and welfare and well-being,” he added.

Chigunduru further revealed that as an institution, they also do mental health awareness which is now a topical issue not only in Zimbabwe but globally.

“We are seeing a lot of issues to do with drug abuse, leading to the subversion of the future of our young minds.

“So, it’s very important during Father’s Day and the mental health month to ensure that young boys and girls are able to interact with those who have been successful and provide role models so that they come out of any potential drug abuse situation.

“They actually instead reenergize and redirect their efforts to be able to pursue lifelong dreams free of drug abuse and drug addiction.

“So that’s one of our main goal and we are also trying to make sure that in every situation, we play our part as a corporate social responsibility to provide our input in terms of mental health awareness and remediation.

“We already engage in mentorship, sponsorship, as well as counselling services for those who have suffered mental health issues and drug abuse issues.

“And we will continue to invest in collaboration with various stakeholders including the Ministry of Health and other private hospitals that are in the country and ultimate goal is to provide a healthy youth, a healthy nation and a healthy future for all.”

Doctors Tapiwa Kusotera and Brighton Valentine Nyamapfene gave inspiring messages to the young students, as they urged them to work hard and remain disciplined so that they can realise their full potential.
