All set for World AIDS Day commemorations in Rusape

All is set for the Town of Rusape to host this year’s national World AIDS Day commemorations on December 1 at John Cowie Primary School.

This year’s commemorations are running under the theme, “Take the rights path: My health, my right.”

District AIDS Coordinator for Makoni District, Shingirirai Spencer Banguza, could not hide his joy for hosting this prestigious event, as he also revealed that it was all systems go for the commemorations.

“We are honoured to be hosting this year’s World AIDS Day commemorations.

“We have been working tirelessly to ensure that the event is a success, and we are excited to share our preparations with the nation,” said Banguza.

He added that the National AIDS Council (NAC) was working with several stakeholders, so as to ensure the commemorations are flawless.

Banguza added that a range of activities have been lined up for the commemorations including a marathon, which will be held for the first time as a pre-event activity. “Athletes from all over the country are expected to participate in the marathon which aims to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS.”

He added: “as part of our efforts to combat HIV and AIDS, we (NAC) are working to curb new infections and provide quality treatment and support services to clients.

“The council has also been running various programs, including community-based initiatives, to promote awareness and prevention,” added Banguza.

He also emphasized on the importance of community involvement in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

“We believe that community-based initiatives are key to combating HIV and AIDS.

“We are working closely with community leaders and organizations to promote awareness and prevention.”

Excitement and anticipation has gripped the Town as it prepares to host the national World AIDS Day commemorations this Sunday.

And Banguza assured that the event will be a success and they are confident that it will make a significant impact in the continued fight against HIV and AIDS.
